About Regex Forge
Why I Built Regex Forge
When I switched from Windows to macOS, I couldn’t find a regex tool that matched what I had in mind. On Windows, I used to love working with Rad Software Regular Expression Designer - it just clicked for me.
But on macOS, everything I tried either felt outdated, too simple, or way too complex. I wanted something that was modern, visual, and easy to use. I wanted a tool that made writing and testing regex less painful and more productive.
So I decided to build Regex Forge.
The goal was (and still is) to create a regex editor that’s simple enough for beginners but powerful enough for people who use regex every day. Something clean, visual, and actually enjoyable to use.
Who I Am
Hey 👋 I’m Simon, an indie dev who loves building useful tools.
I work full-time as a .NET developer, but early mornings and weekends are when I get to work on projects like Regex Forge. I like building things that I personally want to use, and hopefully, others find them useful too.
What I Believe
- Regex should be visual. Seeing matches update in real-time and breaking down expressions visually makes regex much easier to understand.
- AI can help, but regex is fun to write. While Regex Forge includes AI-powered assistance, I still believe crafting your own regex is a skill worth having.
- Community matters. That’s why Regex Forge includes a growing library of shared regex patterns, so you can benefit from what others have already figured out.
